COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 116,151 persons on Saturday and 13,460,092 persons have received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to date.
The Epidemiology Unit states that the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 15,548,834 persons.
On Saturday, 61,713 persons received the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and 1,896 persons received the second dose of the vaccine. In total, the first dose of Pfizer has been administered to 1,207,173 persons, of which 439,399 persons have received the second dose as well.
The first dose of Sinopharm has been administered to 11,899,879 persons and the second dose of the vaccine has been administered to 10,682,473 persons. On Saturday, the first dose of Sinopharm was administered to 7,330 persons and the second dose was administered to 38,640 persons.
The second dose of Moderna was administered to 3,390 persons on Saturday, raising the total number of persons to receive both doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to 782,290. The first dose of the vaccine has been administered to 803,098 persons.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 1,479,575 persons have received the first dose of AstraZeneca and 1,400,166 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine. On Saturday, 3,125 persons received the second dose of AstraZeneca.
The second dose of Sputnik V was administered to 57 persons on Saturday and a total of 155,764 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine to date. The first dose of Sputnik V has been administered to 159,109 persons.
Meanwhile, Health Services Director General Dr. Asela Gunawardena yesterday said administration of a booster dose for frontline workers will commence today. “The booster dose will be administered six months after the second dose is administered,” he said.
According to Dr. Gunawardena, a single dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will be administered as the booster, with priority being given in the same order as the first dose was administered. Thus, the program will first begin for frontline workers in health, tri-forces, police, airport, ports, and tourism, before targeting persons over the age of 60.
The next group will be persons between 30 and 60 years with comorbidities, following which all persons over 20 years will receive a booster dose.
