1,107 COVID-19 cases detected over the weekend

  • 542 COVID-19 patients detected yesterday, 5,957 PCR tests conducted
  • 550 cases reported between 22 Oct. and 28 Oct. added to total after verification
  • Total COVID-19 patient count rises to 541,073

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 541,073 with the detection of 1,107 COVID-19 positive persons over the weekend and the addition of 550 delayed cases yesterday.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 550 COVID-19 cases reported between 22 October and 28 October were added to the total yesterday after verification.

Health officials state that 542 COVID-19 positive persons from the New Year cluster were detected yesterday, with a total of 5,957 PCR tests conducted.

On Saturday, 6,232 PCR tests and 2,949 rapid antigen tests were conducted and 565 COVID-19 patients were detected. The detections include 564 persons from the New Year cluster and one Sri Lankan overseas returnee.

A total of 436,438 patients have been detected from the New Year cluster to date. The Epidemiology Unit states that the Peliyagoda cluster has a case count of 82,785 patients, the Prisons cluster has a case count of 9,051 patients, and the Divulapitiya cluster has a case count of 3,059 patients.

According to the district distribution of COVID-19 cases published by the Epidemiology Unit, 113,086 patients have been detected from Colombo, 95,601 patients have been detected from Gampaha, 52,021 patients have been detected from Kalutara, 33,523 patients have been detected from Galle, and 26,107 patients have been detected from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 80,789 persons from Colombo, 77,067 persons from Gampaha, and 44,963 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 14,532 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,607 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 317 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 512,798.
