A new method of directing COVID-19 patients to treatment centres or home care in Western Province was introduced yesterday, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of the COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) said.
The new method requires the infected person to submit relevant information via a text message to 1904. The information includes the condition of the disease, with A for patients with respiratory distress, B for patients with fever, and C for patients without any symptoms.
The message must also include the patient’s age, National Identity Card number, and address. The format the information should be presented in is symptom code, age, NIC, and address.
The information will be forwarded by the NOCPCO to the medical teams, who will refer the patients requiring medical care to the relevant treatment centres. The patients will be contacted to determine their condition.
Ambulance services and other medical facilities will be provided to patients and a medical team will be in constant contact with patients referred for home quarantine. The NOCPCO states that the 1390 hotline is reserved for this purpose.
