Health Ministry issues revised guidelines for remainder of month

Health guidelines for the remainder of the month were yesterday issued by the Health Ministry in efforts to gradually reopen the country.

According to a circular issued by the Ministry, inter-provincial travel restrictions will be in effect until 21 October and non-essential travel will not be permitted from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. daily. People can only leave the house to purchase essential items, access health services, or for work.

Meetings and workshops can only be held at 25% capacity of the venue, with a maximum of 50 persons. Indoor and outdoor events, parties and gatherings, including those held at home, will not be permitted.

Exhibitions and conferences cannot be held. Factories can operate as per guidelines.

Economic centres will be permitted to operate for wholesale trade. Mobile vendors, open markets and weekend fairs can operate. Economic centres, open markets, weekend fairs and mobile vendors must operate under the supervision of regional committees and medical officers of health.

The agricultural sector can operate.

Dining in at restaurants will only be permitted for 30% of the capacity, with a maximum of 50 persons indoors. Alcohol cannot be serviced in restaurants. Starting 21 October, the outdoor seating capacity will be 60 persons. Delivery and take-away from restaurants are permitted.

Cinemas can operate at 25% capacity from 21 October.

Shops, retail outlets, pharmacies and supermarkets can operate at 20% capacity and financial institutions can have up to five customers at a time. Gyms can operate at 30% capacity, with a maximum of 10 persons. Sports activities can take place as per guidelines, but without spectators. People can visit walking paths and beaches.

Construction sites can operate under the supervision of regional committees and medical officers of health.

Salons and beauticians can operate on appointment basis.

Schools are in the process of reopening and universities can reopen as per guidelines. Day-care centres can operate and pre-schools can function at 50% capacity. Vocational training centres can operate at 50% capacity. However, tuition classes cannot be held.

Physical attendance at examinations will be permitted as per guidelines. Courts can operate as per guidelines.

Weddings can take place with up to 25% of the venue capacity and a maximum of 50 persons. Outdoor weddings can have up to 75 persons. Funerals can have up to 20 persons at a given time.

Gatherings or meetings in places of worship will not be permitted and special guidelines will be issued for commemorations and festivals.
