666 persons test positive for COVID-19

  • 6,513 PCR tests conducted yesterday

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 530,421 with 666 persons testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

The detections were from the New Year cluster. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 6,513 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.

On Thursday, 7,069 PCR tests and 3,474 rapid antigen tests were conducted. The COVID-19 patient detections on Thursday include 649 persons from the New Year cluster, 24 persons from the Prisons cluster, and one Sri Lankan overseas arrival.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 425,759 persons from the New Year cluster and 8,964 persons from the Prisons cluster have been detected to date. The local cases also include 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The country’s imported cases include 6,946 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners.

The district distribution of COVID-19 cases includes 111,840 persons from Colombo, 93,918 persons from Gampaha, 51,615 persons from Kalutara, 32,424 persons from Galle, and 25,531 persons from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 79,543 persons from Colombo, 75,384 persons from Gampaha, and 44,557 persons from Kalutara have tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 25,014 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,597 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 354 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 491,958.
