Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines can be used to fully vaccinate persons awaiting the second dose of AstraZeneca following approval from the Health Ministry’s Advisory Committee on Communicable Diseases.
The National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) has also approved the emergency use of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in Sri Lanka.
According to Pharmaceutical Production, Supply and Regulation State Minister Prof. Channa Jayasumana, Sri Lanka is due to receive one million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine through the COVAX facility. In addition to this, 78,000 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine are expected in July.
The one million doses of Moderna and 26,000 doses of Pfizer are due to arrive during the first two weeks of July.
The Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka yesterday tweeted that two million doses of Sinopharm procured by Sri Lanka will arrive on 2 and 4 July, with at least another two million doses scheduled for delivery in July.
To date, 925,242 persons have received the first dose of AstraZeneca but the second dose has been administered to only 372,899 persons. This includes 31 persons vaccinated on Sunday.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 29,327 persons received the first dose of Sinopharm and 20,345 persons received the second dose of Sinopharm on Sunday. In total, the first dose of Sinopharm has been administered to 1,565,521 persons and the second dose to 513,195 persons.
The Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine is also being used in Sri Lanka with 114,795 persons having received the first dose of the vaccine while 14,425 persons have received both doses.
In total, 2,605,558 persons have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 900,519 persons have received both doses.
