Measures being taken to only permit fully-vaccinated persons from entering public places

Measures are being taken to bar persons who have not received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine from entering public places.

Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said in Parliament yesterday that legal provisions will be introduced to limit access to public places to persons who are fully vaccinated.

“Last week, I inquired from the Attorney General if there is room within the legal framework to bar persons who are not fully vaccinated from public places. I [yesterday] received information that it can be done legally,” Rambukwella said.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine has been administered to 15,799,360 persons and the second dose has been administered to 13,581,028 persons. Second dose coverage of the country’s population over the age of 20 is 92.9%.

According to Our World in Data, 73.48% of the total population has received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 63.16% has received both doses.

COVID-19 vaccine doses administered within a day dropped to 6,721 on Sunday, with 4,530 persons receiving the first or second dose and 2,191 persons receiving the third dose.

The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is being administered as a third dose, with priority being given to frontline workers, and 56,252 persons have received the booster to date.

The first dose of Pfizer has been administered to 1,441,587 persons, of which 446,189 persons have received the second dose as well. On Sunday, 1,333 persons received the first dose of Pfizer and 982 persons received the second dose of the vaccine.

The first dose of Sinopharm was administered to 343 persons on Sunday and the second dose was administered to 1,272 persons. The first dose of the vaccine has been administered to a total of 11,915,745 persons, while 10,781,193 persons have received the second dose as well.

The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 1,479,631 persons and the second dose has been administered to 1,415,392 persons. On Sunday, the second dose of AstraZeneca was administered to 540 persons.

48 persons received the first dose of Moderna on Sunday and 12 persons received the second dose of the vaccine. The first dose of Moderna has been administered to a total of 803,287 persons, of which 782,474 have received the second dose as well.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 159,110 persons have received the first dose of Sputnik V and 155,780 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine.
