COVID-19 death toll crosses 150 mark

The COVID-19 death toll increased to 152 over the weekend with three deaths occurring yesterday.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, a 62-year-old individual from Colombo-10 was transferred from the National Hospital of Sri Lanka to the Colombo East Base Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. She died of an acute heart attack with COVID pneumonia.

A 71-year-old resident of Wattala was transferred from a private hospital to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), where she died of COVID pneumonia and trauma caused by blood poisoning.

The Department of Government Information adds that a 76-year-old resident of Matale was transferred to the Anuradhapura District Hospital after he was identified as a COVID-19 patient at a private hospital in Colombo. However, he died of heart failure with COVID pneumonia.
