784 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 522,002 with 784 persons testing positive for COVID-19 yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday include 782 persons from the New Year cluster and two overseas arrivals. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 5,415 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.

The previous day, 6,479 PCR tests and 2,688 rapid antigen tests were conducted and 786 COVID-19 patients were detected. According to the Epidemiology Unit, Monday’s COVID-19 detections consist of 783 persons from the New Year cluster and three persons from the Prisons cluster.

Since it emerged in April, 417,354 COVID-19 patients have been linked to the New Year cluster. The country’s local cases also include 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 8,836 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 6,942 Sri Lankan overseas arrivals and 328 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients records 110,824 persons from Colombo, 92,730 persons from Gampaha, 51,020 persons from Kalutara, 31,428 persons from Galle, and 25,189 persons from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 78,527 persons from Colombo, 74,196 persons from Gampaha, and 43,962 persons from Kalutara have tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 31,009 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,750 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 477 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 477,851.
