674 persons test positive for COVID-19

  • 666 cases added to total after verification

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 529,755 with the detection of 674 COVID-19 positive persons yesterday.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 666 COVID-19 cases reported between 1 October and 7 October were added to the total after verification.

The COVID-19 patients detected yesterday include 673 persons from the New Year cluster and one overseas arrival. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 7,069 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.

The previous day, 6,156 PCR tests and 4,413 rapid antigen tests were conducted and 680 persons tested positive for COVID-19. The detections include 672 persons from the New Year cluster, seven persons from the Prisons cluster, and one Sri Lankan overseas arrival.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 425,110 patients have been detected from the New Year cluster and 8,940 patients have been detected from the Prisons cluster. In addition to this, 82,785 patients have been detected from the Peliyagoda cluster and 3,059 patients have been detected from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The country’s imported cases include 6,945 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners.

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections include 111,754 persons from Colombo, 93,768 persons from Gampaha, 51,575 persons from Kalutara, 32,421 persons from Galle, and 25,461 persons from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 79,457 persons from Colombo, 75,234 persons from Gampaha, and 44,517 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19. At present, 24,722 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,761 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 366 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 491,604.
