474 persons test positive for COVID-19 over the weekend

COVID-19 detections over the weekend totalled 474, with daily COVID-19 detections dropping below 300.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 236 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. The previous day, 238 COVID-19 patients were detected. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 3,144 PCR tests and 1,154 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Saturday.

A total of 70,394 COVID-19 patients have been detected since 1 January and Sri Lanka’s local cases also include 483,090 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 persons from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

The country’s imported cases include 7,237 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners.

A total of 658,197 COVID-19 patients have been detected to date.

This includes 137,669 persons from Colombo, 113,730 persons from Gampaha, 57,918 persons from Kalutara, 45,054 persons from Galle, and 31,262 persons from Kurunegala.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 105,372 persons from Colombo, 95,196 persons from Gampaha, and 50,860 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 17,090 persons are under medical or home-based care and 854 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 624,676, with 84 persons discharged from treatment centres yesterday.
