461 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 592,128 with the detection of 461 COVID-19 positive persons yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday include 456 persons from the New Year cluster and five overseas arrivals.

The previous day, 417 persons from the New Year cluster, 13 persons from the Prisons cluster, and six Sri Lankan overseas returnees tested positive for COVID-19. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 5,266 PCR tests and 2,696 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Sunday.

In total, 487,417 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,081 patients from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster have tested positive for COVID-19.

The country’s imported cases include 7,083 Sri Lankan overseas returnees and 328 foreigners.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 118,592 persons from Colombo, 102,396 persons from Gampaha, 54,115 persons from Kalutara, 38,674 persons from Galle, and 28,804 persons from Kurunegala have tested positive for COVID-19.

COVID-19 detections during the third wave of the pandemic include 86,295 persons from Colombo, 83,862 persons from Gampaha, and 47,057 persons from Kalutara.

At present, 9,768 persons are under medical and home-based care and 2,011 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The country’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 567,226 with 149 persons released from care yesterday.
