429,099 persons vaccinated on Wednesday

COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 429,099 persons on Wednesday, raising the number of persons to have received the first dose of a vaccine to 13,128,756 and the number of persons to have received both doses of a vaccine to 9,994,589.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 12.2% of the country’s population in the 20 – 29 age group have received both doses of a vaccine, with second dose coverage in the age group recorded at 26.1% in the Mannar District, 23.7% in the Colombo District, and 19.2% in the Kilinochchi District.

In the population over 30, 83.4% have received both doses of a vaccine. Second dose coverage in this age group exceeds 90% in the Matale and Hambantota Districts.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that 10,384,291 persons have received the first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine and 8,115,632 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine. This includes persons vaccinated on Wednesday, when 139,982 persons received the first dose of Sinopharm and 255,986 persons received the second dose of Sinopharm.

On Wednesday, 18,728 persons received the first dose of Pfizer and 392 persons received the second dose of Pfizer. A total of 395,945 persons have received the first dose of Pfizer and 236,656 persons have received the second dose as well.

The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to a total of 1,416,691 persons, of which 888,441 persons have received the second dose as well. On Wednesday, 9,070 persons received the first dose of the vaccine and 385 persons received the second dose of AstraZeneca.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 315 persons received the first dose of Moderna on Wednesday and 4,241 persons received the second dose of the vaccine. A total of 772,741 persons have received the first dose of Moderna and 710,410 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine. In addition to this, the first dose of Sputnik V has been administered to 159,088 persons and the second dose has been administered to 43,450 persons.
