320 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 657,134 following the detection of 320 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

There has been a gradual drop in daily COVID-19 detections, with 428 cases detected the previous day. The Health Promotion Bureau states that 4,419 PCR tests and 2,411 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Tuesday.

A total of 69,248 COVID-19 patients have been detected since 1 January. The country’s local cases also include 483,090 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 patients from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster.

In terms of imported cases, 7,236 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 137,271 patients from Colombo, 113,573 patients from Gampaha, 57,823 patients from Kalutara, 44,909 patients from Galle, and 31,199 patients from Kurunegala have been detected.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 104,974 persons from Colombo, 95,039 persons from Gampaha, and 50,765 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

There are currently 21,525 persons under medical or home-based care and 1,161 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 120 persons were discharged from treatment centres yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 619,193.
