2,987 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 342,079 yesterday with the detection of 2,987 COVID-19 patients.

The detections include 2,890 persons from the New Year cluster. The Epidemiology Unit states that 236,652 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 7,932 patients from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster have been detected to date.

The cumulative patient count of the four clusters is 330,110.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that 6,422 Sri Lankan overseas arrivals and 328 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19 to date.

This includes the patients detected on Tuesday, of which 2,904 were from the New Year cluster and 18 were Sri Lankan overseas arrivals.

The 2,922 COVID-19 patients detected on Tuesday include 511 persons from Colombo, 402 persons from Gampaha, and 363 persons from Kalutara.

Western Province detections during the third wave of the pandemic consist of 46,040 persons from Colombo, 42,261 persons from Gampaha, and 29,583 persons from Kalutara.

The district distribution of the total COIVD-19 detections shows 78,337 persons from Colombo, 60,795 persons from Gampaha, 36,641 persons from Kalutara, 16,356 persons from Kurunegala, and 16,125 persons from Galle.

At present, 36,333 persons are under medical or home-based care and hospitals are observing 3,697 persons suspected of having COVID-19.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 2,244 persons were released from hospitals yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 300,406.

Meanwhile, Family Health Bureau Director Dr. Chithramali de Silva said that 700 pregnant and postnatal women are currently receiving medical care and that the country’s COVID-19 fatalities include 19 pregnant women.
