1,537 persons test positive for COVID-19

Daily COVID-19 detections yesterday rose to 1,537 after a slight drop in numbers due to reduced testing this week.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 13,940 PCR tests were performed yesterday. Tuesday saw the lowest number of daily tests performed this week, with 5,631 PCR tests and 2,433 rapid antigen tests.

On Monday, 869 persons tested positive for COVID-19 and 934 persons tested positive on Tuesday. The Epidemiology Unit states that 1,234 persons tested positive on Wednesday.

A total of 1,270 COVID-19 patients were detected on Thursday, consisting of 1,100 persons from the New Year cluster, 123 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 47 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas.

According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 10,559 PCR tests and 3,991 rapid antigen tests were carried out on Thursday.

The district distribution of Thursday’s COVID-19 detections record 229 persons from Gampaha, 180 persons from Kalutara, 137 persons from Colombo, 92 persons from Kandy, and 92 persons from Monaragala.

Among the patients detected yesterday were 1,515 persons from the New Year cluster.

The Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, Prisons, and New Year clusters have a cumulative patient count of 263,636, which includes 168,946 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 7,321 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

In addition to this, 5,593 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19.

Detections during the third wave include 30,937 persons from Colombo, 29,058 persons from Gampaha, and 22,864 persons from Kalutara.

In total, 63,234 persons from Colombo, 47,592 persons from Gampaha, 29,922 persons from Kalutara, 14,321 persons from Kurunegala, and 13,611 persons from Kandy have tested positive for COVID-19.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak in Sri Lanka, 271,483 persons have tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 27,057 persons are receiving treatment for COVID-19 and 820 persons suspected of having the disease are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that 1,451 persons were discharged from hospitals yesterday, bringing the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 241,035.
