Indian pay-television broadcaster Sony Pictures Networks has renewed its global Sri Lanka Cricket rights for four years, from April 2023 to March 2027, the Daily FT understands.
Sony will continue to hold rights to all home matches of the Sri Lanka men's team and other SLC properties.
The rights are exclusive and platform-neutral, except for in Sri Lanka where SLC has retained terrestrial rights. However, Sony will hold exclusive hold cable, satellite and digital rights in Sri Lanka.
This new signing is a continuous good, cordial relationship between the two parties that extends to 22 years.
The two parties are in the process of working out the final evaluations before making the agreement official.
Disney Star, FanCode and Viacom18 were the other broadcasting companies who were in contention.
The value of the SLC rights is believed to be $ 23-25 million, but a final value will be determined on how many times the Asia Cup champions face India in the four-year period.
Sri Lanka are scheduled to play India in a six-match bilateral series (3 T20Is, 3 ODIs) in July 2024, and a two-Test series is scheduled in Sri Lanka in 2026. Given the frequency of Sri Lanka-India games there could be late additions to the FTP. (ST)
