Inter-provincial travel restrictions were yesterday extended until 4 a.m. on 31 October, National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Head Gen. Shavendra Silva announced yesterday. The extension was made as per a directive issued by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Meanwhile, health guidelines issued on 15 October stated that cinemas could operate at 25% capacity starting today. The outdoor seating capacity of restaurants will increase to 60 persons from today.
Despite the gradual easing of restrictions Health officials have warned that guidelines are not being adhered to in the country.
“We saw that the behaviour of the public during the past two days was not on a positive note following the relaxation of travel restrictions. We did not see an adherence to COVID-19 control guidelines,” Health Promotion Bureau (HPD) Director Dr. Ranjith Batuwanthudawe said at a press conference held by the HPB yesterday. He added that it had been observed that persons were gathering in large crowds and not wearing face masks properly.
