539 persons test positive for COVID-19

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections rose to 533,305 with the detection of 539 COVID-19 patients yesterday.

The patients detected yesterday include 537 persons from the New Year cluster and two overseas arrivals. The Health Promotion Bureau stated that 6,518 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.

The country’s total COVID-19 detections include 428,699 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,032 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

In terms of imported cases, 6,949 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19 as well. This takes into account the 544 persons from the New Year cluster, two persons from the Prisons cluster and two Sri Lankan overseas arrivals who tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 4,757 PCR tests and 2,722 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Tuesday.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 112,246 patients from Colombo, 94,499 patients from Gampaha, 51,718 patients from Kalutara, 32,528 patients from Galle, and 25,734 patients from Kurunegala have been detected to date.

During the third wave of the pandemic, 79,949 persons from Colombo, 75,965 persons from Gampaha, and 44,660 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.

At present, 26,088 persons are under medical or home-based care and 71 COVID-19 patients are occupying beds in intensive care units. The Epidemiology Unit states that 2,035 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

A total of 360 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 493,674.
