893 persons test positive for COVID-19

  • Total patient count rises to 518,775
  • 505 cases identified last month added to country total after verification

The detection of 893 COVID-19 positive persons yesterday raised the country’s COVID-19 case count to 518,775.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 505 cases reported between 15 September and 22 September were added to the total case count following verification.

The COVID-19 patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 8,261 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.

On Thursday, 7,740 PCR tests and 3,380 rapid antigen tests were carried out. A total of 907 persons from the New Year cluster and five persons from the Prisons cluster tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

The country’s COVID-19 detections include 414,086 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 8,773 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster.

Sri Lanka’s imported cases include 6,937 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 110,353 persons from Colombo, 92,290 persons from Gampaha, 50,790 persons from Kalutara, 31,038 persons from Galle, and 24,961 persons from Kurunegala.

Western Province detections during the third wave include 78,056 persons from Colombo, 73,756 persons from Gampaha, and 43,732 persons from Kalutara.

At present, 47,726 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,598 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The Epidemiology Unit states that 597 persons were released from care yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 458,085.
