Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 case count rose to 647,699 following the detection of 751 COVID-19 patients yesterday.
The Department of Government Information states that all patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster. This is the lowest daily COVID-19 detections have been since 18 January, when 672 persons tested positive for COVID-19
The previous day, 913 persons from the New Year cluster and one Sri Lankan overseas arrival tested positive for COVID-19. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 4,650 PCR tests and 2,669 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Tuesday.
A total of 542,474 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 persons from the Prisons cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster have tested positive for COVID-19 to date.
In addition to this, 7,234 Sri Lankan arrivals from overseas and 328 foreigners make up the country’s imported cases.
The total COVID-19 case count includes 134,644 persons from Colombo, 112,382 persons from Gampaha, 57,280 persons from Kalutara, 43,178 persons from Galle, and 30,788 persons from Kurunegala.
During the third wave of the pandemic, 102,347 persons from Colombo, 93,848 persons from Gampaha and 50,222 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.
At present, 22,140 persons are under medical or home-based care and 1,144 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 200 persons were discharged from treatment centres yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 609,292.
