Over 24% of the country’s population over 20 years has received the booster dose, the Epidemiology Unit stated, adding that 166,526 persons were vaccinated against COVID-19 on Monday.
Epidemiology Unit data showed that 101.9% of the population over 20 years has received the first dose and 94.6% has received the second dose. The third dose has been administered to 24.3% of the population over 20 years.
Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Samitha Ginige said that interest in the booster dose is low in the country, despite a decision made by officials to administer the booster dose to all persons over 20 years.
“We have administered the third dose to roughly 25% of the population eligible for the booster dose. So there is another 75%, which is roughly 10 million persons, who are yet to receive the dose,” he said. According to Our World in Data, 74.34% of the total population of the country have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 64.33% have received the second dose.
In total, the first dose has been administered to 15,985,385 persons and the second dose has been administered to 13,833,773 persons.
The booster dose has been administered to 3,550,824 persons. This includes 159,076 persons vaccinated against COVID-19 on Monday.
The Epidemiology Unit stated that 1,945 persons received the first dose of Pfizer on Monday and 1,810 persons received the second dose. A total of 1,571,507 persons have received the first dose of Pfizer and 474,717 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine.
It was also stated that a shipment of 1,147,770 Pfizer vaccine doses purchased by the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation arrived in the country yesterday.
The first dose of Sinopharm has been administered to 11,970,336 persons and 10,997,290 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine. On Monday, 1,240 persons received the first dose of Sinopharm and 2,455 persons received the second dose.
The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 1,479,631 persons and 1,418,593 persons have received the second dose as well.
The first dose of Moderna has been administered to 804,801 persons and 787,361 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine.
A total of 159,110 persons have received the first dose of Sputnik V and 155,812 persons have received the second dose of Sputnik V.
