479 persons test positive for COVID-19

  • 6,000 PCR tests conducted yesterday

Health officials stated that 479 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 patient count to 584,586.

The patients detected yesterday include 477 persons from the New Year cluster and two overseas arrivals. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 6,000 PCR tests were conducted yesterday.

The previous day, 5,488 PCR tests and 1,549 rapid antigen tests were conducted. Among the patients detected on Monday were 456 persons from the New Year cluster and two Sri Lankan overseas arrivals.

The Epidemiology Unit stated that 479,938 patients from the New Year cluster, 82,785 patients from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,065 patients from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 patients from the Divulapitiya cluster have tested positive for COVID-19 in the country.

In terms of imported cases, 7,018 Sri Lankan overseas arrivals and 328 foreigners have tested positive for COVID-19.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 117,370 persons from Colombo, 101,178 persons from Gampaha, 53,807 persons from Kalutara, 37,826 persons from Galle, and 28,582 persons from Kurunegala.

COVID-19 detections during the third wave of the pandemic include 85,073 persons from Colombo, 82,644 persons from Gampaha, and 46,749 persons from Kalutara.

At present, 9,788 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,456 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.

The country’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 559,684 with 191 persons released from care yesterday.
