Guidelines issued to private laboratories performing COVID-19 RT-PCR and rapid antigen testing

Four guidelines have been issued by the Health Ministry to private laboratories carrying out COVID-19 RT-PCR and rapid antigen tests, and failure to comply could result in the laboratory no longer being authorised to carry out testing.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, private laboratories will now be permitted to carry out testing only when it is recommended by a medical specialist or medical officer.

The laboratory must advice individuals on isolating themselves inside the institution or at home until their report is issued.

If the individual tests positive for COVID-19, the laboratory must inform the Health Ministry’s Epidemiology Unit and the Medical Officer of Health of the respective area as well as the patient.

The facility must also arrange for accommodation for patients who test positive for COVID-19 at authorised COVID-19 treatment centres as per the recommendation of the physician.
