State Minister of Money, Capital Markets and Public Enterprises Reform Nivard Cabraal yesterday described China as a “true friend” for its further support via donation of the Sinopharm vaccine.

“True friends assist in good times and not so good times. Sri Lanka to receive 500,000 free doses of Sinopharm vaccine from China tomorrow. We thank China for its continued support to Sri Lanka,” Cabraal tweeted. 

This was in response to the Chinese Embassy confirming via a tweet that 500,000 Sinopharm vaccine doses and 502,400 syringes were packed and delivered to Beijing International Airport yesterday for take-off to Sri Lanka and that paperwork will be done in the coming hours.
