139 persons test positive for COVID-19

A total of 139 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the country’s total COVID-19 patient count to 92,442.

Of the patients detected yesterday, 118 are associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster, 14 are overseas arrivals and seven are from the Prison cluster. The total number of patients detected from overseas arrivals and the Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons clusters are 87,832.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 2,645 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and 203 foreigners are among the country’s imported cases. In terms of local cases, 87,541 persons from the triple clusters, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts and 651 persons from the Kandakadu cluster have tested positive for COVID-19 to date.

The district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 29,722 persons from Colombo, 18,315 persons from Gampaha, 6,634 persons from Kalutara, 4,192 persons from Kandy and 2,861 persons from Ratnapura.

At present, 2,786 patients are under medical care, including 315 persons at the Kopai Treatment Centre, 131 persons at the Embilipitiya Treatment Centre and 126 persons at the Warakapola Base Hospital. Hospitals are also monitoring 472 persons suspected of having COVID-19. Meanwhile, the country’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 89,090 with 176 persons leaving hospitals yesterday. The recoveries include 18 from the Karandeniya Treatment Centre, 16 from the Bingiriya Treatment Centre and 14 from the Divulapitiya District Hospital.

On Monday, 215 persons tested positive for the virus, including 150 persons from sub-clusters related to the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster, 47 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 16 persons from the Prison cluster and two foreign arrivals. Of the patients, 47 were from Colombo, 17 were from Gampaha and 17 were from Jaffna.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 9,102 persons received the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on Monday and a total of 903,467 persons have received the vaccine to date.
