Cabinet has given the green light to extend a waiver for landing and parking fees for international airlines flying into the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport and Ratmalana International Airport until July 2021.

Cabinet gave approval for the initial waiver that was in effect from 26 December 2020 to 19 January, to be extended till 19 July based on a paper submitted by Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.

The temporary waiver of airport fees is aimed at encouraging the airline sector, which is facing a crisis, to fly passengers to Sri Lanka. Accordingly, international airlines will continue to operate according to specific schedules prepared by the Ministry of Tourism and the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, Cabinet Co-Spokesman Udaya Gammanpila said.

Cabinet gave initial approval on 21 December to release the Landing Charges and Aircraft Parking Charges of the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport and Ratmalana International Airport as a pilot project.
