With 15 years of educational excellence and ranked as the number one Higher Education Institute in Sri Lanka by LMD in 2013, SLIIT has been recognised as the premier degree awarding institute in the country which provides a broad scope of academic opportunities for students in the fields of Computing, Business and Engineering. SLIIT has now commenced enrollment of students for the degree programs of Sheffield Hallam University, UK and Curtin University, Australia, both of which will be conducted at SLIIT by an experienced in-house lecture panel. SLIIT and Sheffield Hallam University have been in partnership for many years. Degrees in BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering and MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Sheffield Hallam University are two prestigious degrees offered under this partnership, thereby allowing students the opportunity to complete these degrees in Sri Lanka and gain world class Bachelor’s degrees from UK. While the entry requirement for the degree in Electronic Engineering program is three passes at the G.C.E A/L examination (Sri Lanka /London) in Mathematics and Physics in one and the same sitting, the MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering would require, a ‘B’ pass in both Mathematics and Physics. Students have the option to transfer from BEng to MEng program depending on their performance during the first two years of the course. Ideal for anyone who wants to pursue a career in software development, students can now also sign up for the BEng (Hons) Degree in Software Engineering. This program gives an insight into fundamental Software Engineering principles. Potential students need to have passes in three subjects at the G.C.E A/L examination (Sri Lanka /London) in any subject stream in one and the same sitting. “Students enrolling in the Sheffiled Hallam University programs will have the scope of participating in industry standard practical projects of high quality and economic relevance. The program is reviewed, moderated and assured for quality by Sheffield Hallam University UK. Students can study in a university environment with modern library and laboratory facilities,” commented SLIIT President and CEO Professor Lalith Gamage. The Curtin University partnership with SLIIT will allow students to pursue the following four year Engineering degree programs; Civil and Construction Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The admission requirement for the Engineering degrees is three passes at the G.C.E A/L examination (Sri Lanka /London), including a credit pass in Mathematics/Physics in one and the same sitting. The SLIIT-Curtin University partnership, also paves the way for students to obtain BSc degrees in Information Technology, Software Engineering and Computer Systems and Networking. To enter these degree programs, students should have obtained at least three passes at the G.C.E A/L examination (Sri Lanka /London) in any subject stream in one and the same sitting. However, admissions to the Computer Systems and Networking degree require a pass in Mathematics or Physics. All degree programs offered by the Curtin University and Sheffield Hallam University require students to secure a pass at the aptitude test conducted by SLIIT which will be held on 28 September at all SLIIT campuses and centres. While the degree programs are offered by prestigious foreign universities, classes are held in Sri Lanka, giving students an added benefit of selecting weekday and weekend study options. “Students have the opportunity to gain a well recognised foreign university degree at a fraction of a cost. In addition, we have attractive student loan schemes, such as the NDB – SLIIT Achievers Educational Loan, exclusively for SLIIT students and performance based scholarships,” notes SLIIT Chairman Professor Lakshman Ratnayake. Students can obtain an application form at any one of the SLIIT established centres at Matara, Kandy, Jaffna or Kurunegala or from the main campuses situated in Malabe and Kollupitiya, Colombo.
