The certificates were handed over to the beneficiaries by Prof. S.S.M.K. Kshanika Hirimburegama, Chairperson to University Grant Commission, who was the Chief Guest at the event.
The year’s 2011 and 2012 constitute the ninth and 10th batch of beneficiaries under Dialog’s Merit Scholarships program, which has benefitted close to 600 students all over Sri Lanka during the past 10 years, including its parallel program which recognises and rewards top performers at the GCE Ordinary Level examination.
The program aims to empower outstanding students from all parts of the country to accomplish their educational aspirations, and the broader objective of enriching knowledge capital of our future generations. The students are selected by the University Grants Commission and the University Grants Commission and are based on the results of each district.
Sri Lanka’s premier telecom service provider, Dialog Axiata, has contributed immensely towards the development of education in Sri Lanka, including gifting the ‘Nenasa’ distance education network to the Government of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Education, broadcasting the national educational curriculum via satellite to 2,000 underserved schools all over Sri Lanka.
