Authentic Sri Lankan experiences for travellers around the world
Sustainable wildlife and nature experiences for guests |
Every stay tells a story. At Browns Hotels & Resorts, we make sure it’s a story worth telling. For us, hospitality isn’t just about comfort and luxury – it’s about people you meet, the lives we touch, and the memories that linger long after you leave.
This World Tourism Day, as we reflect on Tourism and Sustainable Transformation, we ask ourselves: What does it mean to welcome a traveller today? For us, it means protecting the very world travellers come to see — and creating experiences that make journeys meaningful.
Across Sri Lanka, from the Cultural Triangle to the southern coast and the East, our properties are more than hotels — they are hubs of change. We have undertaken initiatives that transform lives, communities, and landscapes. At Thaala Bentota, we roll up our sleeves with the local community to breathe life back to the Rathamilla mangroves. At Club Hotel Dolphin, we plant Nipa Palm mangroves with regional school children and wildlife experts, showing the next generation that sustainability is an action, not a buzzword. In Sigiriya, at Occidental Paradise Dambulla and Hotel Sigiriya families have a sustainable livelihood thanks to our bee honey farming project, while naturalist training programmes equip the youth in the area to guide guests in exploring the local flora and fauna responsibly, while creating more job opportunities in hospitality. Our partnership with the National Crafts Council, gives local artisans a stage to share their stories and traditions with visitors, keeping cultural heritage alive. At Occidental Eden Beruwala, our butterfly gardens flourish, while our jack tree planting initiatives in Bentota and across our properties brings greenery and life back to the land.
“True sustainable transformation in tourism goes beyond projects or programmes. It’s about cultivating a culture of care — where every decision we make considers the future of our people, our places, and our planet. Our role is to inspire guests, staff, and communities to see themselves as partners in sustaining what makes Sri Lanka extraordinary. When travel becomes mindful and purposeful, it creates a positive impact that lasts far beyond a single stay,” said Eksath Wijeratne, CEO of Browns Hotels & Resorts.
Every stay is also a journey of discovery. Guests explore local markets with our chefs, uncovering the stories behind each ingredient, and experience cooking that celebrates Sri Lanka’s culinary heritage. New menus across our properties highlight local flavours and seasonal produce, inviting travellers to taste the island in its most authentic form.
Our commitment doesn’t stop with guests. It extends to our people as well - from hiring staff from local communities, creating jobs, and fostering meaningful connections.
At Browns Hotels & Resorts, every guest is more than a visitor – they are a partner in a story that matters. Each stay goes beyond luxury — it’s an opportunity to connect with people, learn from local culture, and leave a positive mark. Each visit strengthens our staff, uplifts communities, and nurtures the environment. Here, Tourism becomes a shared journey of responsibility and discovery, where guests experience the best of Sri Lanka while helping shape a sustainable future.
