Wildlife Dept., Army herd wild boar and deer out of MRIA

The Department of Wildlife together with the Sri Lanka Army spent the whole of last Wednesday (16) herding out a 50-strong herd of deer and wild boar that had bred within the premises of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Airport at Mattala.

More than 300 soldiers from the 14th Gajaba Regiment and the 10th Gemunu Watch were deployed for the operation.

Mattala was an area rich in wildlife to which no concern was given when the area was selected for MRIA and other development projects.
