Speaking at the International Conference of Business and Professional Women on Ecotourism, Sri Lanka Convention Bureau General Manager Vipula Wanigasekera said that Sri Lanka will reap her full potential in ecotourism in the coming years. Sri Lanka’s green is now being presented effectively through modern communication channels not only by authorities but also individual industry members, beginning from the story that Sri Lanka has the world’s first wildlife sanctuary as well as the oldest recorded tree in the world. Wanigasekera explained the many facets of ecotourism which is now spearheading sustainable tourism that many destinations are advocating. For some, ecotourism is still a fashionable word while those who grasp its true meaning have gone far ahead, catering to responsible tourists whose numbers are growing rapidly in the ‘free individual travellers’ market, said Wanigasekera.
