Hemas to service Ukraine Int’l Airlines

Cabinet approves strengthening of Sri Lanka-Ukraine bilateral air services

The Cabinet of Ministers this week has approved a proposal to strengthen bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Ukraine.Spokesman Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said Cabinet approved the proposal to sign the initialed bilateral Air Services Agreement and take necessary steps for its entry into force.

The development follows the aeronautical authorities of Sri Lanka and Ukraine holding negotiations in Kiev, Ukraine in later October with a view to finalize an Air Services Agreement in order to facilitate operations between the two countries. The following officials participated for these negotiations.

At these negotiations it was agreed as follows;

Designate one or more airlines for the purpose of operating the agreed services on the specific routes.
Permit the designated carriers of each contracting party to operate 7 frequencies per week for the IATA Winter Season 2010/2011,
Consider further extension up to 14 frequencies per week starting from IATA Summer Season 2011 between the two countries.
Enter into cooperative marketing arrangements by the designated carriers of both countries to code-sharing.

Aeronautical authorities of both countries agreed on the text of the draft Air Services Agreement and initialed the same by two heads of delegations. (Please see attachment I. This initialed Air Services Agreement and the Agreed Record of Discussion come into force as from the date of signature on a provisional basis pending completion of domestic requirements necessary for it to enter into force.
