Chamber of Tourism and Industry Chief meets UNWTO Regional Director

The President of Chamber of Tourism and Industry A.M. Jaufer recently met the Regional Director, Asia Pacific, World Tourism Organization Xu Jing at the Colombo Hilton during the latter’s visit to Sri Lanka.

During the discussion Jaufer said that the world has now recognised Sri Lanka as a tourism destination which is a positive sign for the development of the economy of the country.

He further said that the Chamber is happy that World organizations are helping to develop the industry.

Jaufer requested support from the WTO to carry out Trade and Community awareness and training programs in the North and the East. He further said that Tourism Development strategy of the Government implemented by the Ministry of Economic Development need support from the world organisations he added.

Jing said that the UNWTO was happy to support the Government’s initiative to develop tourism and was looking forward to provide the support in future too.

He also gave his consent to tour the North and East during his next visit to Sri Lanka. “We also work very closely with Sri Lanka Tourism,” Jing added.
