Creative vision is the source of all arts, including music; this is the philosophy that prompted the Academy of Design to collaborate with the Electric Peacock Festival 2010 – Sri Lanka’s first major music festival.

The Academy of Design (AOD) as one of Sri Lanka’s pioneering forces in developing creative industries is, well known for giving its students a unique and interactive program with a rounded artistic and cultural experience. AOD recognises the youth of a country as the driving force of its creative progression and evolution and believes in supporting their artistic aspirations.

AOD believes that learning through various arts and being actively engaged in realistic sites and events contributes to boosting the students’ creativity, attainment and personal development.

“Having been invited to partner the first electric peacock festival, representing the youth of Sri Lanka and their creative vision, AOD students contributed by finding design solutions while working in close quarters, with set budgets and timelines,  proving they are able to turn out creative solutions to design problems across the board,” said Karen MacLeod – Principal of AOD.

The AOD interior design students are to be involved in providing creative solutions for the Electric Peacock Festival’s ambience and entrance pieces while students involved in photography are to get involved in the festival with their lenses. AOD will also be putting together a one-of-a-kind live photo-shoot featuring radical costume pieces designed by the jewellery designers that could be worn by the world-renowned guest musicians and the festival goers.

The Graphics department of the campus is involved in branding festival transport while they are also organizing a groundbreaking live art session on the beach. Alain Parizeau – the programme head of Graphic Design at the AOD commented on the involvement of his students: “AOD is always keen to encourage relationships between institutions and practising artists/designers. This is a great experience for our students as it involves applying design principles to a 3D surface while stepping away from the computer and working with our hands to real-time deadlines.”

The Electric Peacock Festival 2010 is to take place on the Mount Lavinia Private Beach on 16 December and will be enlivened by the AOD young students’ creativity to ensure a unique and fantastic experience for the Sri Lankan youth.
