Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) and the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai, organised promotional events in Mumbai and Ahmedabad on 7 and 9 September to promote Sri Lanka as a wedding destination. The events were attended by Sri Lankan hoteliers, Indian wedding planners and service providers, travel agents, and media representatives.
In her welcome remarks, Consul General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai Priyanga Wickramasinghe highlighted Sri Lanka’s unique potential as a premier wedding destination that goes beyond pristine beaches and legendary hospitality to embrace culture, art, literature, and cuisine. She emphasised that weddings in Sri Lanka can be transformative experiences that turn travellers into storytellers, citing inspiration from Mark Twain and Ibn Battuta. She observed that in 2025 alone, the country has received several international tourism endorsements, notably from Lonely Planet, Vogue Magazine, BBC Travel Guide, and Travel & Tour World.
