Sri Lanka honours British tourist for heroic efforts in Ella Bus tragedy

A heartfelt felicitation ceremony was held at the Parliament of Sri Lanka to honour Amy Victoria Gibb, a British national, for her extraordinary humanitarian service during the tragic bus accident on Ella–Ravana Ella Road on 5 September.

Presided over by Deputy Minister of Tourism Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe, the ceremony recognised Gibb’s swift and courageous response at the scene, where she provided life-saving assistance to injured victims. Her medical expertise, calm under pressure, and deep compassion brought critical relief during a moment of national grief.

Prof. Ranasinghe expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the Government and the people of Sri Lanka, commending Gibb’s selfless actions as a shining example of humanity in its purest form.

“Her bravery and kindness remind us that compassion knows no nationality,” said Prof. Ranasinghe.

The Tourism Ministry along with the citizens of Sri Lanka, extend their deepest appreciation to Gibb. Her service stands as a powerful testament to the strength of global solidarity and the enduring spirit of goodwill.
