The Sri Lanka Embassy in Brussels recently hosted a tourism promotion workshop in Antwerp, Belgium, titled “Discover Sri Lanka: Unveiling the Island’s Beauty in Belgium.”

The event, held on 27 September 2023, aimed to introduce the beauty of Sri Lanka to Belgian travel professionals. Over 80 participants, including tour operators, travel agents, bloggers, influencers, journalists, TV professionals, and airline representatives, attended.

One of the highlights was a video message from Antwerp Province Governor Cathy Berx, who praised Sri Lanka›s efforts in promoting tourism. Sri Lanka›s Ambassador to Belgium Grace Asirwatham, provided an overview of Sri Lanka›s diverse landscapes, cultural heritage, wildlife, nature reserves, and wellness tourism. 

Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Antwerp Monique De Decker highlighted adventure tourism and shopping in Sri Lanka, emphasising the warmth of the people. Andrews Travels Managing Director Mahen Kariyawasan discussed accommodation options and connectivity to Sri Lanka, emphasising its affordability. Sjobbe Schellens, a travel agent, shared positive experiences promoting Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka Embassy in Brussels is actively conducting tourism promotion workshops across Belgium to position Sri Lanka as a top destination for Belgian travellers, showcasing its natural beauty, culture, and hospitality. Antwerp, known as Belgium›s commercial capital, offers strategic advantages for such endeavours, connecting with travel professionals and bloggers, aiming to establish Sri Lanka as a must-visit destination for Antwerp›s potential travellers.
