The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB), in collaboration with the Sri Lanka High Commission in New Delhi and Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai organised a Sri Lanka MICE promotion in three cities in India, Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata held on 16, 18 and 20 September.

A 15-member MICE delegation led by SLCB Chairman Kumar De Silva, participated at the B2B meeting followed by a networking dinner in each city. Jetwing Travels, Hamoos Travels, NKAR Travels, Esna Holidays, Apple Holidays, Walkers Tours, Sunway Holidays, BMICH, Nawamini Travels, Rainforest Eco Lodge, George Stuart, Royal Holidays, Tropical Leisure, Scope Travels and The Travel Concierge Sri Lanka (TTC) attended the MICE promotion event.

SLCB being the Government organisation responsible for the development of the MICE industry in Sri Lanka, has identified several key markets as potential for the MICE industry. India is one of the key markets identified by SLCB to leverage the market position for the MICE industry.

The Sri Lanka MICE promotion in three cities was organised to capitalise the opportunities in the Indian market and build momentum to position Sri Lanka as a cost-effective and attractive destination for global conferences, corporate events and incentive travel.

India is a key market for Sri Lanka’ MICE sector with the air connectivity and the convenience to travel between the two countries. The total tourist arrivals from India recorded as 212,749 up to August 2019 have been improving despite the recent setbacks.

In connection to the MICE promotion held in India, there was a one-day event in each city with B2B sessions followed by an interactive session/presentation in the evening followed by dinner in each city. The Sri Lanka MICE delegation had interactive business meetings with the invited MICE corporates and buyers in three cities.

Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai Deputy Commissioner V. Krishnamoorthy, SLCB Chairman Kumar De Silva, Sri Lankan Airlines Country Managers and Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission Minister Commercial Yasantha De Silva, addressed the gathering and made presentations during the event.
