Sri Lanka and Belarus have signed a bilateral Air Services Agreement aimed at enhancing air connectivity between the two countries during Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath’s official visit to Minsk.
The agreement was signed by Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath and Belarus Transport Minister Alexei Lyakhnovich.
During the visit, Minister Herath also called on Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko, where discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and identifying areas for expanded cooperation.
According to the Foreign Ministry, discussions centred on developing a roadmap for collaboration in sectors including trade, industry, agriculture, education and people-to-people exchanges.
Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations as Sri Lanka and Belarus mark the 25th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
Minister Herath further held bilateral discussions with Belarus Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov, during which the two sides agreed to expand cooperation across political, economic, educational, cultural and social sectors.
The two countries also agreed to convene regular political consultations and hold meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation later this year.
Sri Lanka and Belarus established diplomatic relations 25 years ago, with both governments describing the milestone as reflecting longstanding ties and continued engagement between the two countries.
