Right of reply: A response to former SLTDA Chief’s warning

I am writing to express my concerns regarding the article published in the 2 December 2025 edition of the Daily FT. titled ''Former SLTDA Chief warns guide shortage and poor planning could impact negatively in 2026''. I believe this article misrepresents the role and significance of tour guides within Sri Lanka's vibrant tourism industry.

In the piece, the former Chairman criticises the recent Supreme Court decisions, the actions of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), and tour guides as a profession. Upon reviewing his statements, I find them to be selectively biased.

It is essential to recognise that the tourism industry is a vital source of foreign exchange for our country and

provides employment to nearly a million Sri Lankans.

To clarify these important issues for your readership and to present a more accurate picture of this essential sector, I respectfully request the publication of my response at your earliest convenience.

I hope my response will provide clarity and foster a more constructive dialogue about the future of tourism in Sri Lanka.
