Marking its new chapter as an independent entity, Belluna Lanka is reinforcing its commitment to regional expansion, reaffirming Sri Lanka’s role at the centre of its South Asian vision.

A wholly owned Sri Lankan subsidiary of Japan’s Belluna Co., Belluna Lanka currently operates several key assets in Sri Lanka including the Le Grand Galle and Granbell Hotel Colombo.

To mark its transition to an independent entity and celebrate a decade of investment in Sri Lanka, the company recently hosted an intimate media gathering. The event also offered a glimpse into the next phase that is envisioned to be rooted in deep local partnerships, long-term thinking, and people-led leadership, with a strong focus on regional expansion and diversification.

With a projected investment of $ 60 million over the next five years, the company is set to confidently step into its new path forward. Its new chapter will see an expansion of its presence across the Western and Uva provinces, moving forward with strategic interest in renewable energy, and laying the foundation for future entry into the Indian real estate and travel markets.

“We’re optimistic about what lies ahead. If all goes well, one should be completed in about 30 months, and the other in around 45 to 50 months,” said Belluna Lanka Managing Director Rehan Morris. The opening of a new phase of apartment sales at 447 Luna also marked a key milestone in Belluna Lanka’s growing real estate footprint, he added.

The transition to an independent Sri Lankan-led operation reflects what both the Sri Lankan and Japanese leadership teams described as a ‘people-centred approach’. Belluna Lanka is focusing internally as well by building its team capacity, strengthening its organisational culture, and developing what it calls ‘The Belluna Way’.

“We’re moving forward, not by replicating a model, but by creating one together. It’s a deeply Sri Lankan-led story, grounded in humility, strengthened by partnership, and driven by purpose,” Morris said.

That vision is also shared by Belluna Co’s Japan Director Hiroshi Yasuno who visited Sri Lanka recently and praised the country’s depth of knowledge, leadership, and potential. “We believe deeply in Belluna Lanka’s vision and its people to carry this journey forward – in Sri Lanka and across the region,” he said.

The recent visit by the Belluna Japan leadership team also reflected the trust and partnership between the two sides. It included dedicated meetings with the wider Belluna Lanka team across sectors, offering space to reflect on the journey so far while marking their new beginning.

With an existing South Asian investment portfolio exceeding $ 200 million, Belluna’s renewed focus underscores both its confidence in the region’s long-term potential and its distinct focus on people-powered leadership. As Belluna Lanka continues to grow, this next phase of its journey positions Sri Lanka as the anchor of Belluna Co.’s strategic future in South Asia.
