The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Toronto, in collaboration with TripToGo Tour Company and Sri Lankan Airlines, jointly organised “Sri Lanka – One Island, A Thousand Stories”, a tourism promotion event for Canadian travel media, travel influencers and content creators on 11 June in Toronto. The event brought together 30 participants representing leading Canadian media outlets, including CBC and Travelweek, as well as prominent other travel influencers and content creators.
The initiative sought to increase awareness of Sri Lanka’s diverse tourism offerings and strengthen engagement with key stakeholders who play an important role in influencing travel decisions among Canadian audiences.
Welcoming the guests, Vice President of TripToGo, Brian Tan, shared reflections on the remarkable experiences he encountered during his recent visit to Sri Lanka. He noted that the island offers an extraordinary range of experiences within a compact destination. Addressing the gathering, Consul General Medhavi Peiris underscored the growing importance of Canada as a source market for Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and emphasised the influential role of travel media, influencers and content creators in showcasing Sri Lanka’s rich heritage, natural beauty, and authentic travel experiences to Canadian travellers.
The audience was then taken on a journey across Sri Lanka by Consul (Commercial) of the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Toronto Yasoji Gunawardana and Whittall Boustead (Travel) Ltd., CEO Nalika Abeysuriya highlighting the country’s authentic and diverse attractions. Travel influencer Praveeni Perera shared her experiences of Sri Lanka from a Canadian perspective, highlighting the destination’s appeal for travellers seeking authentic and immersive experiences. Jerit Fernando of SriLankan Airlines showcased the airline’s onboard hospitality and convenient connectivity between Canada and Sri Lanka through major European gateways.
Guests enjoyed an authentic Sri Lankan culinary experience featuring traditional cuisine, a special tea counter showcasing Ceylon Tea heritage, cultural performances, and interactive quizzes, with prizes including Sri Lankan gemstones and complimentary tours. The event also highlighted sustainable tourism through TripToGo’s “Classroom of Hope” initiative, under which $ 10 from every booking to Sri Lanka will be contributed towards supporting the educational needs of underprivileged children.
The event provided a valuable platform to showcase Sri Lanka’s diverse tourism offerings and enhance awareness of the destination among Canadian travel media and influencers.
