All set for inaugural Jaffna MICE Expo next week

The inaugural Jaffna MICE Expo 2023 organised by the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism and Lands will be held from 30 November to 3 December in Jaffna.

The event is designed to showcase the Northern Province as a promising destination for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) while also providing MICE agents and media personnel from South India with an opportunity to explore its potential.

170 potential MICE buyers from India applied for the hosted buyer program and 40 buyers and five media personnel have been systematically evaluated and enlisted for the event. The selected MICE buyers will participate in industry forums, networking sessions and familiarisation tours that are organised by SLCB as part of the Expo.

Sri Lanka Convention Bureau Chairman Thisum Jayasuriya said: “Sri Lanka Convention Bureau takes pride in showcasing the Northern Province as a promising destination for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE). The Jaffna MICE Expo will provide an opportunity for local service providers such as event organisers, travel agents, hotels, venue partners to engage with foreign buyers and provide the assurance needed to strengthen their confidence in hosting international events in Sri Lanka.”

Sri Lanka Convention Bureau General Manager Krishantha Fernando said: “Sri Lanka Convention Bureau received overwhelming response from the hosted buyers as well as from the local vendors and slots were sold out well in advance.”   

Entry to all events related to Jaffna MICE Expo will be subjected to prior registration.  The Business Forum will be held at the Thinnai hotel and Opening Ceremony and B2B Session will be held at the North Gate hotel in Jaffna. Jetwing Jaffna hotel and Fox Resort Jaffna have come on board as partner hotels.  

Tourism and Lands Minister Harin Fernando is expected to join the event as the Chief Guest and Northern Province Governor P.S.M. Charles is invited to grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
