Stock market up before Avurudu

The Colombo stock market yesterday closed on the up before the Avurudu holidays though on thin volume.

The All Share Price Index gained by 33 points and the Milanka Index improved by 32 points. Turnover was only Rs. 155 million.

Illiquid stocks figured among the top gainers percentage wise with some seeing just one share traded. For example Keells Food gained by 22% or Rs. 17.80 to Rs. 99 with one share traded whilst the second biggest gainer Autodrome up 19% to Rs. 797, also on one share.

Investor interest remained subdued since Monday partly on account of the festive and holiday sentiments ahead of Sinhala-Hindu Tamil New Year starting from today.

The year to date negative return of ASI was 10.68% and for MPI it was 6.12%.
