For the first time since the unveiling of the Government’s master strategy for future of Sri Lanka, the Daily FT in partnership with Colombo University MBA Alumni Association will throw open the ‘Five Hubs’ concept for critique by public-private sector experts at a top level full day forum on 25 February. Titled ‘Five Hubs: Fiction or Reality?’ the forum at the Colombo Hilton will highlight the opportunities as well as challenges in the Government’s push to develop Sri Lanka as a hub for maritime, aviation, commercial + tourism, knowledge and energy. The joint initiative by the Daily FT and Colombo University MBAAA will see the five hub strategy being discussed at a single platform for the first time. The event is supported by several institutions as strategic partners including John Keells Holdings, Standard Chartered Bank and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. Dedicating a session of one hour each for the five hubs, top experts from the public and private sector drawn from the respective hubs will shed valuable insights to those who are presently undertaking business ventures or wish to harness the potential in these five future core sectors of the economy. Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa will be the Chief Guest and Central Bank Governor Nivard Cabraal will deliver the keynote address.  A special guest will be World Bank’s Lead Private Sector Development Specialist of the Competitive Industries Practice Parth S. Tewari, who among other insights will share key lessons from Singapore’s successful hub strategy. For the benefit of the participants the full day forum will be broken in to two sessions with the morning dedicated to discuss the maritime and aviation hubs preceded by the ceremonial opening  whilst the afternoon session will focus on remainder of the hubs – commercial + tourism, knowledge and energy.
