Ex-Pack Corrugated Cartons PLC, a leading corrugated cartons manufacturer in Sri Lanka delivering end-to-end packaging solutions to both local and international clientele, and a subsidiary of Aberdeen Holdings Ltd., was recently awarded the Carbon Neutral certificate, upon successfully neutralising its total Greenhouse Gas emission.

Ex-Pack’s sustainable practices were captured comprehensively throughout the process, with organisational-wide assessments related to energy and water consumption, waste management, transportation, among others of the organisation.

The verification of GHG assessments were conducted by the National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC), where Co-energi, a building engineering services consultancy company specialising in green building, MEP design consultancy and carbon neutral consultancy, together in partnership with Ex-Pack, calculated the GHG emissions and guided the pathway in achieving Carbon Neutrality.

Ex-Pack joined hands with Co-energi during October last year, to strengthen its position in addressing the many challenges in climate change and global warming. This achievement is truly remarkable considering the nature of its sector, which utilises heavy machinery.

“This important milestone speaks volumes of our intentions and activities in being responsible towards the environment which has always been a core belief at Ex-Pack. It is more of an obligation than merely a compliance to us. We will continue to engage with Co-energi, NCPC and many other industry stakeholders in our journey towards sustainability,” said Ex-Pack Corrugated Cartons Chairman Sattar Kassim.

The Carbon Neutral status follows months and years of hard work and commitment through diverse programs focused on offsetting its impact on the ecology.

The support from Co-energi is of a great asset, drawing on its 12 plus years of experience in designing highly efficient AC systems, rooftop solar designs, energy audits, MEP designs, retro fittings and being instrumental in achieving over 14 LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certifications in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Ex-Pack Corrugated Cartons PLC is also ranked consecutively among Best Workplaces in Asia and Best Workplaces in Sri Lanka. Earlier this year, the company celebrated 25 years of providing some of the most innovative and sustainable packaging solutions.

The company is certified with ISO 9001-2015, ISO 14001-2015, FSC COC, WRAP certifications, including numerous recognitions at the NCE Export Awards, CNCI Awards, Lanka Star Awards, NBE Awards, Lanka CSR Awards and Green Awards.
