Sri Lanka’s premier apparel solutions provider, Brandix, released its 2022/23 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report this week, strengthening its commitment to be the country’s most responsible and sustainable apparel manufacturer.

The report is centred on three strategic objectives of the Brandix Group; to be a Net Zero impact producer of apparel, to empower lives and inspire growth and to embody and inclusive approach to governance across all stakeholder groups.

The 22/23 ESG Report titled ‘Inspiring Beyond’ is the eighth sustainability related report by Brandix since 2011, offering greater accountability alongside a structured approach towards defining its sustainability journey over the years. During its 50+ year journey, Brandix has accomplished several world firsts in the sphere of sustainability, including the world’s first Platinum Rated apparel manufacturing facility for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design in 2008, to building the world’s first Net Zero Carbon apparel manufacturer facility in 2019. To date, six Brandix facilities across Sri Lanka have been rated Net Zero Carbon.

By 2023, Brandix had installed 18MW of installed solar capacity, reused and/or recycled 90% of waste and held a green water percentage of 36% across the Group. The company will achieve Net Zero across all plants in Sri Lanka in 2024, and aims to achieve Net Zero Carbon across all facilities globally by 2030 – 20 years ahead of the target set by United Nations. Brandix will increase its green water and recycles water share to 50% and 100% recycling of waste during the same period.

“Brandix sets the benchmarks for sustainability in the apparel sector, and our latest ESG report details our vision and commitment over the long-term. We have constantly adopted a holistic approach towards sustainability, enabling Brandix to inspire change and transform lives and futures of the communities we serve. Our latest report goes beyond conventional reporting and presents the evolution of our progressive journey and the environmental stewardship Brandix offers to the industry,” said Brandix Apparel Director Natasha Boralessa.

The Brandix 2022/23 report is produced in accordance to GRI Universal Standards as published in 2021 and the latest Topic-based standards. The Brandix Group is also accredited with and a member to several benchmark compliance standards including the Ethical Trading Initiative, Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP), Global Recycle Standard, Social Accountability (SA8000) and many more. The average HIGG index score of the Brandix Group is 86%.

The report reviews Brandix’s activities with respect to environmental stewardship, social responsibility and contribution towards Sri Lanka’s economic growth, and outlines material topics related to its commitment towards sustainable, responsible operations. The execution of ESG strategies and the management approach to mitigate negative ESG impacts and the resultant ‘Sustainability Performance’ is outlined under each material sustainability topic.
