Sri Lanka’s premier apparel manufacturer, Brandix, underscored its commitment to excellence and environmental sustainability as its near-term and net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

SBTi is a corporate climate action organisation that empowers companies with their efforts to combat the climate crisis and align sustainability strategies to halve global emissions by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Along with its founding partner organisations — CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, We Mean Business Coalition, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) — the SBTi develops standards, tools and guidance for entities to set and validate emissions reduction targets. This ensures companies take transparent, measurable and effective climate action to supports global climate goals.

Brandix has set a target to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% from its 2021 baseline by 2030, and absolute Scope 3 emissions, from capital goods, fuel and energy-related activities, upstream transportation and distribution, waste generated in operations, business travel, and employee commuting, by 25%. Additionally, these targets will extend to 20% of suppliers by emissions covering purchased goods and services.

By 2040, these reductions are to reach 100% for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and 90% for the value chain across Scope 3 emissions. Brandix further commits to reaching net-zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2050, reinforcing its role to drive meaningful climate action within the apparel industry.

UN Global Compact Network Sri Lanka Executive Director Rathika de Silva said: “Brandix Lanka has consistently demonstrated a bold and unwavering commitment to long-term climate action. Its continued dedication to decarbonisation has been recognised by the UN Global Compact Network Sri Lanka. Brandix actively participates in Climate Change Mitigation Programmes, including the Climate Ambition Accelerator for three consecutive years and contributing to the Climate Emergency Task Force Working Group since 2020. The Network commends Brandix for its strong leadership in sustainability, reinforced by the validation of its Near-Term and Net-Zero Science-Based Targets.”

As a pioneer in sustainability and environmental stewardship in the country, region, and beyond, Brandix is home to the world’s first Net-Zero Carbon certified apparel manufacturing facility, sourcing nearly 50% of its energy from renewable sources.

In 2020, Brandix achieved a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, reflecting a continued commitment to environmental stewardship at a global scale.

By aligning with the Science Based Targets initiative, Brandix continues its journey towards meaningful climate action, building resilience, supporting responsible growth, and encouraging innovation. This approach also reflects a commitment to meeting the expectations of increasingly conscious consumers, communities, and partners.
