BMICH celebrates “World Environment Day”

BMICH, Sri Lanka’s most recognisable and iconic landmark, celebrated the World Environment Day by planting a variety of saplings in the premises including “HAL” plants.

“HAL – Vateria Copallifera” is endemic to Sri Lanka which is powdered and used to make various authentic Sri Lankan food such as Halapa, Pittu, Thalapa, Roti etc.   

The World Environment Day is celebrated to spread awareness about protecting and restoring our planet. This year’s theme being “Only One Earth”, we need to work collectively towards building the comfort of the planet.

BMICH Chief Executive Sunil Dissanayake said: “We are delighted to have celebrated the World Environment Day as we continuously practice eco-friendly concepts being an urban forest and we operate an in-house compost pile using the “Takakura” method to manage the daily garbage collected in the premises and we look forward for organic agriculture projects in the premises as well.”

Set in a sprawling site, 15 well laid out and spacious car parks that can accommodate 3,000 vehicles at a given time, and well-maintained landscaped gardens, BMICH is Sri Lanka’s largest and Asia’s very first purpose-built convention centre with ultra-modern facilities.

BMICH is situated in one of the most prestigious locations in Colombo. BMICH won the South Asian Travel Award (SATA) Gold in 2016, Silver in 2017 and Gold again in 2018 and 2019. In 2016 BMICH also won the Quality ERA Geneva Gold Award, Platinum Award in 2017 and the BWIO USA Platinum Award in 2020.
